Titles of Jesus in John One

John one is considered one of the great chapters in the Bible. The first five verses are loaded with information about Jesus. John the Baptist confesses that Jesus is the Christ and Jesus is baptized by John. One of the best things about that first chapter in John is that we are allowed to see quite a few titles of Jesus. "The first title found referring to Jesus is “The Word.” We know that Jesus is the word because of John 1:14. Jesus came to the world and exposed another angle of God.“Before Jesus came into the world it is possible that some might have complained that God is unknowable since he can neither be seen nor directly approached by sinful man (1 John 4:12; 1 Tim. 6:16); but no more” (Guy N. Woods, Pg 22). Jesus is also referred to as “The Life” and “The Light” (Jn 1:4-9). These titles show us that Jesus is needed in order to live. These verses are similar to when Jesus called Himself “The bread of life” (Jn 6:48). Without Jesus we are essentially crawling around in the dark. Without Jesus we are hungry. Without Jesus we are spiritually dead. John one tells us that Jesus is the Son of God and the Only Begotten Son of God (Jn 1:14,16, 35,49). Jesus is special in that no one is the Son of God like Him. Christians are all “sons of God” (1 Jn 3:1-2) but no one is like Jesus. No one will have the special relationship that the Son and the Father have. In John one, John the Baptist calls Jesus the “Lamb of God” twice (Jn 1:29, 35). Jesus truly became the Lamb of God when He gave His precious life on the cross to save mankind. There are more titles found but I encourage you to find them. Thank God that we are allowed to have such an incredible chapter in His word.
