Stand By Me

One of the most popular songs ever is Stand By Me by Ben E. King. The song is very powerful and depicts a man wanting his wife to stand by him throughout life no matter what happens. One day when driving to church I was listening to the song and I realized that it may be difficult to rely on friends, family, or even spouses to stand by you. Yet it is never hard to rely on Jesus to stand by us. Jesus will always be standing by us if we are willing to stand by Him. In Matthew 28:20 Jesus informs the apostles that He would be with them unto the end of the world. The same principle applies to us. Paul in Romans 8:38-39 provides some of the most encouraging and comforting words for Christians. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ! If nothing can separate us from the love of Christ than it is abundantly clear that Christ will stand by our side if we stand by His side. James 1:12 informs us that if we endure temptations that the Lord has a crown promised for us. The best way to endure temptations is by having Jesus at your side. We do that the same way Jesus did it in Matthew 4. Jesus used scripture to defeat Satan and we can do the same. We can rely upon the words of Christ when temptations come. We can endure temptation by prayer (1 Thess 5:17). Jesus advocates for us to God through these prayers (1 Jn 2:1). We can have Jesus by our side by utilizing His words and by prayer. One day we will live with Jesus and be right by His side and hear Him say “well done” as we receive our crown that was promised.
